Replying to Dating Ads
Replying to
Ads:
what to do
and what not to do!
Here's how
to make a great first impression when replying to someone's
ad.
1. Do take your time. Just as you should spend time creating
an ad for yourself, it's also important to do the same when
replying. If you're pressed for time, send a link to your
own ad (one you've spent energy on, of course!) as a reply.
2. Do personalize your reply. Having a template for replies
is a terrific way to streamline the process; however, it's
key that you personalize each response. If someone mentions
a movie you love, tell them. If they're looking for a hiking
partner, describe your favorite trail.
3. Do show your personality. If you have a sense of humor,
use it! You need to stand out from the crowd. If you can
elicit a giggle, bet you'll get a reply in return.
4. Do check your spelling! Good spelling makes a good
impression. Unfortunately, poor spelling makes people look
stupid or uneducated, whether or not that's the case.
5. Do send a picture. Most likely, you responded to an ad
with a picture. Just as personals with pictures generate
more response than those without, replies with pictures do
the same.
6. Don't write only a few lines. "I like your personal.
Email me." doesn't do anything to encourage a response.
7. Don't discuss sex. Unless you're frequenting adult dating
sites, most people are looking for dating first, then sex.
Broaching the subject too early can be a huge turn-off.
8. Don't be negative. A positive, healthy outlook on dating
and the dating process will encourage others of like mind to
respond. See dating as an adventure and not a colonoscopy
and you'll have more fun!
